Create a serverless database

Create a new resource in your workspace

  1. Creating new resources can only be done by CST members, we will assist you in this! As a rule of thumb: normal users cannot self-service create new resources or configure security settings (e.g. whitelist their own IP addresses). Contact us here for help!

  2. Sign in to the Azure portal.

  3. Locate your workspace and create a new resource by pressing +Add on the top of the page.

  4. Find SQL Database, press it and fill in the details.

  5. Press Create new and fill in the requested details (be sure to remember or note down these details, especially servername, username and password, you will need this later on!).

  6. Press Configure database and select Serverless in the middle panel. Set the desired sizes and press Apply

  7. Proceed to the Networking tab and choose Public Endpoint.

  8. You can fill in No two times.

  9. Put enable advanced data security on Not now. You can now press Create to deploy your serverless database.

  10. To give your workspace or your local machine access to the serverless database, you have to perform some whitelisting steps.

  11. For workspaces: locate your workspace and then locate your serverless database. Go to Firewalls and virtual networks in the left-hand menu and then press +add existing virtual network. Find the correct subnet to which the workspace is connected. (Finding the correct subnet can be done by going to any VM in the workspace and check the number on the xx spot at Virtual network/subnet: Workspace-vnet/subnetxx). Fill in the correct subnet, press Enable and then OK. Your workspace now has access to the serverless database.

  12. For your local machine: locate your workspace and then locate your serverless database. Go to Firewalls and virtual networks in the left-hand menu and whitelist the client IP address. Fill in the Rule name and your IP address as start and end IP. You can now access the serverless database on your local machine with the appropriate credentials
